Information Technology Undergraduate Technician

DEPARTMENT: K-State Biosecurity Research Institute, 1041 Pat Roberts Hall

JOB SUMMARY:This part-time student position works as a member of a professional staff of information technologists to provide support to the Biosecurity Research Institute in the use of information technology.  This position is responsible for installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of thin client, computer, audio, video equipment and other duties as assigned.  On the job training will be provided to include fire suppression, cybersecurity, information security, ladder safety, safe lifting, biosafety and more.

This position is supervised by the Director for Information Technology of the Biosecurity Research Institute.

Summer Hours: 40 hours per week
Fall/Spring Semester Hours: 20 Hours per week

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES and REQUIREMENTS:Responsible for installing and configuring equipment and software (computer, network, audio/video).  Responsible for troubleshooting and maintenance of computer systems, network wiring, audio/video equipment and software.Responsible for assisting staff and guests with auditorium and conference room equipment and systems.Perform duties as assigned by the Director for Information Technology of the Biosecurity Research Institute.Ability to pass criminal background check and may be required to participate in the CDC Federal Select Agent Program.Must have a valid driver’s licenseAdditional physical requirements include carrying equipment and tools (up to 30lbs), walking (up to 2 miles per day), climbing (roof top and other areas not easily accessible), standing (up to several hours), climbing ladders, and moving heavy objects (25-100lbs)Ability to wear personal protective equipment including Tyvek suits, gloves, boots and fall protection harness.

Student System Administrator

The KSU Computer Science department has immediate openings for one or more Student System Administrators. These are a part-time positions open to K-State students. These positions will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance of departmental servers and workstations, including installation and configuration of systems applications, management of enterprise-wide software deployment, user account management, and end-user support. We are looking for people with a variety of enterprise-level systems administration skills.

Computer Science operates in a non-homogeneous computing environment. We support servers and desktops running Windows, Linux, and Mac OS on a variety of hardware. For Linux, we primarily use Ubuntu/Debian. Experience with this platform is preferred, but not necessary. Likewise, experience with Windows server platforms is preferred but not necessary. Knowledge of Mac OS, especially in an enterprise environment, will give the applicant a strong advantage. Strong logic and troubleshooting, as well as communication skills are very important for this position.
